If you’re stuck in a job search and it’s been a while since you last had to deal with online job boards, recruiters, and networking, we’re glad you’re here. To provide you with the best job search solutions for your journey, my team and I have put together the top ways to organize your job search.
- Create a file system on your mobile and desktop devices so that you can easily reference your job search archives
- File systems can be saved using Google Shared Drive systems, your MS OneDrive account, etc.
- Include folders for your resume and cover letter, email scripts or templates for your networking follow-ups, job search spreadsheets, and more.
- Bonus Tip: As David Goggins recommends in his book “Can’t Hurt Me,” we recommend you keep a digital file folder (your very own career “cookie jar”) with details of your career “WINS” and other career achievements. Consider saving emails with accolades, certificates, etc., into this file.
- Develop a Job Search Tracker. This is a spreadsheet to document who your target companies to work for are, which senior-level contacts you may know that work there, and people you’ve researched on LinkedIn that you would like to connect with.

- Set yourself up for success using alerts and calendar appointment reminders. When you have an interview and need to prepare, be sure you carve out some time a few days to a few hours before your next interview. Job search alerts can easily be automated on your websites of choice, and you can even set up Google Alerts when news breaks about companies you might be interested in working for. This allows you to “stay in the know” and even helps position you as a thought leader if you choose to share the content.
The only way to remain consistent in your job search is to take massive action in the most efficient way. You only get eight hours of sleep, eight hours of work, and the rest of your eight hours, you get to choose how to maximize your time.
This list of tools and action items to best support you in organizing your executive job search is sure to help you land your next role quickly. But, the implementation may be a bit challenging.
